Achievements and Vocational Service
Our outstanding achievement is the initiation of the current district well project in Costa Rica. Other international activities include sponsoring inbound and outbound students, co-sponsoring an inbound exchange student weekend with the Sycamore Club, an international dinner in the spring, and having an international student from NIU speak at our meetings every other month. In the community, we participate in Meals-On-Wheels three times a year, Adopt-A-Highway, Salvation Army Bell Ringing and Adpot-A-Family at Christmas, and food collection for Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinners.
We have an annual drive for unused mobile phones which get turned into Motorola, who then reprograms the phones and provides them at no charge to abused women. We also receive a check from Motorola for the phones collected, and donate it to Safe Passage.
We plan two activities every year that pair up our members with Little Brothers/ Little Sisters-In-Waiting.
We are active with RYLA and Interact. We also give donations to organizations such as United Way, United Fund, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Our Centennial Project will be providing a picnic area in a new DeKalb County Forest Preserve. This will be an ongoing project for our club that we will be able to add to every year.
For vocational service, we provide Two $1000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors for college. We are also actively looking for a local literacy project, and hope to see the literacy portion of the Costa Rica project begin soon. Our various fundraising activities have included raffles, Trivia Night, Murder Mystery Dinner, Talent Show, and Quiz Bowl. Most of the fundraising activities also serve as social gatherings for the club.
