District 6420 is accepting applications to bring a vocational team to work with
the indigenous Mayan educators at Ak’ Tenamit. The team will be made up of
one team leader and 4 vocational volunteers (with a maximum of 2 Rotarians).
Ak’Tenamit means “New Village.” It is a Guatemalan indigenous owned and operated
non-profit association based on the Rio Dulce, in the rainforest of Eastern Guatemala.
Ak’Tenamit gives more than 500 students a practical and vocational education at a
jungle school campus, where the national curriculum has been adopted to the student’s
indigenous culture and rural reality. Dozens of remote Maya villages, all of which lack
electricity and running water were included to form Ak’ Tenamit, giving children
the opportunity to receive an education and vocational training, which they did not
